On September 4, 2013, CCNAPI leadership held a Focus Group Discussion (FGD) on “Sepsis”. There were ten critical nurses who participated in the discussion representing three medical centers and two specialty hospitals in Metro Manila. Mr. Ferdinand P. Aganon, member of the Board of Directors led the FGD by fielding five questions relating to sepsis. All representatives of these hospitals were all engaged in sharing their best practices to prevent sepsis and are convinced that there are more challenges to enhance the system providing early goal directed treatment and how to implement the recommendations to prevent sepsis. After the activity, CCNAPI President, Prof. Maria Isabelita C. Rogado invited everyone to participate in advocating public and professional awareness on sepsis prevention during the World Sepsis Day. She also requested for signature pledges from the different hospitals to be engaged in this global advocacy on sepsis prevention, with the end goal of reducing the incidence and making people aware of sepsis by the year 2020.

Last September 13, 2013, CCNAPI joined the global village to celebrate the second World Sepsis Day. There were 115 participants coming from the private and government hospitals, also engaged in this activity were the CCNAPI Board of Directors and officers of the Philippine Nurses Association. Everyone were treated with free burning presentations of lived experiences of the critical care nurses from different health institutions in Metro Manila, focusing on the following: “hand hygiene and bundles of care for the prevention of associated urinary tract infection (CAUTI),bundles of care for the prevention of ventilator associated pneumonia (VAP)central line Associated blood stream infection (CLABSI) and surgical site infection (SSI). The last free burning topic was the presentation of Prof. Rogado on the overview of sepsis and the latest sepsis guidelines. Participants and guests were fanned to join the Global Alliance goal, “To prevent sepsis and save lives”. Everyone was invited to be sepsis warriors and was given WSD pin as engagement to the cause to save lives locally and globally.
